Invasion of the Road Weenies and Other Warped and Creepy Tales is a children's book written by David Lubar, containing a collection of short stories all ending with creepy, strange, or unhappy endings. "The Invasion of the Road Weenies" story is about a kid who tries to figure out why the joggers never smile. The collection was published in 2006. It is the second book in the Weenies series, preceded by In the Land of the Lawn Weenies and followed by The Curse of the Campfire Weenies.

The Shortcut - Two boys, Lucas and Chuck, are outside walking home together when it suddenly starts to rain. They take a shortcut through the hospital. A guard catches them and they make a run for it. They hide behind the doors of a morgue. The guard doesn't know they're in there—so he locks to the door. Soon Lucas and Chuck realize they're in a morgue. There is only one body on a table. Lucas thinks he saw an arm move. Then the Janitor turns off the lights. He doesn't hear the kids screaming. One problem—Chuck isn't screaming. Where is he? He's gone. Lucas looks around for him in the dark only to find a leg. He grabs it. He feels a shoe on the bottom of the leg. Shoe? Chuck wears sneakers. A voice says "You weren't supposed to arrive here for many years." Looks like they made the wrong shortcut.
